Children and Youths

The municipality offers nursery, daycare and regular school services in addition to afterschool programs. School attendance is compulsory for the first nine years. Registration details for the various institutions are available on their respective websites.



The daycare centre Alvalon is located on Kjódalsvegur 3 in Sørvágur and is an integrated institution for children from 8-9 months to seven years old. 
If you move to Sørvágs municipality with your child, and you want the child to attend a daycare, you will need to fill out a daycare registration form.
If your child attends a daycare, you are required to pay per child all months regardless of the child not attending for periods of time.

Elementary school

If you have a child or children who will be attending school, you must first meet with the school office to arrange classroom assignment with the appropriate teacher. You can call the office to make an appointment.
The attendance school age begins at age 7.

Music school

The music school in Vágum is a part of the National Music School Organisation. There are about 100 to 120 students in our music school.

Vága Music School offers lessons in these instruments: Song, piano, recorder, flute, clarinett, saxophone, trumpet, cornet, tenor horn, French horn, baritone horn, euphonium, trombone, tuba, guitar, bass guitar, double bass, drums, percussion, ear training, and theory.

The teachers are all educatied in their field of expertise.

The Music School also provides students opportunities to play in an ensemble.

Frítíðarskúlin Sýslan is an afterschool program for children from 1st to 3rd grade in the school of Sørvágur.

Open on weekdays: 11.30 AM to 5 PM.
